One of my new year's resolutions is to continue switching over to more natural and homemade health and beauty and cleaning products. I thought I'd share with you (my two readers - Hi mom! Hi sis!) the things I've already started trying.
The first switch I made was to the oil cleansing method for skin, which I read about on Simple Mom.
I combined equal parts of castor oil and olive oil in an old glass spice jar. To clean my face, I rub a dime-sized portion into my skin, then hold a steaming washcloth over my face for a minute. I rinse the washcloth in hot water, then gently rub the oil off. I do this four to five times a week, and on the other days, to be honest, I just don't wash my face (sorry to gross you out, Kate).
Basically, the good oils bond to the dirt and bad oils, removing them from the skin without removing the good natural oils from the skin. I've been doing this for over two months now, and my skin isn't much different than it was before, when I was using cetaphil, except that it's a bit softer. I find the steamy process to be relaxing and kind of luxurious.
When I refill my little jar next, I'm going to try adding a drop or two of tea tree oil, to help control the occasional breakout.
And that's it! I recommend it.

Three readers!
Awww. I can always count on Ramon!
If I bothered to wash my face (don't tell Kate!), that sounds like a great way to do it!
i definitely want to try this. it's probably way cheaper than face wash, too! and, i love tea tree oil.
As an obsessive follower of your blog too! Your recent blog posts and pinterest boards on natural products actually inspired me to start making homemade cleaning products this winter. I totally love it and now I give Penelope her own spray bottle and rag and we clean the house together!
Yeah, I have tea tree oil that I use for blemishes and it is legit. And it doesn't dry your face out all nasty like products with benzoyl peroxide.
I read too! And I love this. I want to try it... I'm almost out of face cleanser and have been trying to figure out what to do next that does not involve using a plastic bottle. Thanks!
I read!!!!!! And I LOVE it! And I heart your oils! (Although I don't think I can part with my purpose bar that I replace q6-9 months.) That's gross now that I think about it. Maybe I do have a stinky face. I could use some oils for my dried mountain face. And then when I move to the Northeast I'll wash more like Katie!
