Recently, Jack didn't believe me when I used the expression "hoisted by my own petard." He thought I made it up.
I can't think of a better example of this old-fashioned idiom than Gov. Spitzer of New York, who himself pressured banks to acquire the technology that eventually was used to bring him down.
But you could also say it about an american idol contestent (ahem, David Hernandez? Kristi Lee Cook?) who gets voted off after a miserable performance. AI does improve when the song choices are all Lennon/McCartney-penned. My votes for the night (if I voted, which I don't) go to David Cook, who sang like a (Chris Daughtry) rock star, and Brooke White, the folky-pop "good girl" with the most interesting voice.
Today in class we're making waffles to illustrate how the woman of faith fed Elijah and then never ran out of flour and oil again. Yum.

You two aren't very confident in each other's English/grammar skillz.
So, I would kinda like to hear how this whole "petard" thing happened for you. I am surprised that you would do something to intentionally harm someone else - you seem so innocent.
Should we be scared of you?
