Johanna, who moved here from Interlaken, misses her grandfather and her billy goat, but she'll always have fashion. She'll let you know if you are "in" or "out". She's still my favorite. This is her best friend Michelle (who was going to be named Gwendolyn ("We real cool"), but then got pearl-necklaced, and the name Michelle seemed unavoidable).


Poor Ugly Maud was born with tiny, mangled arms. Because her creator was too lazy to give her a new pair of proper arms, she instead always must wear her yellow jacket. But even with her arms hidden, she's got a big frankenstein head and green hair to deal with. It's a difficult life, but she'll grow stronger through adversity. Maybe she will become a librarian.

Little Ira the Jewish boy sits next to her. He hopes to grow up and produce an award-winning radio show about life in America. He likes to wear a tie with his sleeveless shirts.
